What a superb Autumn we have had here in Amroth. All our self-catering cottages that overlook the sea, having been fully booked in September, October and into November, has meant our guests have been able to enjoy some stunning sunrises and glorious evening skies.
The first photo is taken from the decking of Granary Cottage, where some lucky guests had a wonderful 2 weeks at the beginning of October with some superb weather. The other two photographs, I managed to capture a superb sunrise, while walking Asti, our rescue dog, on Amroth beach.
The colours in the trees have been superb this year and the National Trust’s Colby Woodland Gardens, just down the hill, in the valley below our self-catering cottages, has been wonderful to walk through with our dog Asti, on the way to the woods, where dogs can play and run freely. So many wonderful smells!!!!
As well as the colours, the weather has been wonderful this Autumn with calm, warm days and lots of sunshine. Some kind guests have allowed me to show you the view they took from Tenby, looking towards Caldey Island and also Amroth beach in the second week of October. I am sure the weather has been better this Autumn than some weeks of the summer. Who would guess these two photos were taken in Pembrokeshire in October????
It was still warm in the sun yesterday when I spotted this Red Admiral butterfly enjoying a bit of warmth but I guess it won’t be for much longer.
The children who stayed in our self-catering cottages, with their families, for the October half-term had great fun in the Hot-Tub and enjoyed the BBQ house. All the decorations are now put away and the next thing I will do, is decorate it for our guests at Christmas and New Year.
There are now lots of Christmas Fairs coming up in the area, Colby Woodland Gardens is Nov.14th & 15th, Carew Castle 5th/6th Dec. , Saundersfoot Christmas Market 5th & 6th Dec, and also Picton Castle, St. Davids and the National Botanic Gardens of Wales all have events planned, so lots to do in the area leading up to Christmas.
News from the Farm
We still have our two dear old sheep enjoying a gentle life at a very slow pace now and Harry and Sally the goats are both fine and have loved the attention from our guests in the cottages this year. We have welcomed a new duck Jessica, a Runner duck, which surprised Belle and Sebastian, as she is so much taller than they are!! The rescue hens are all doing well and guests have enjoyed the eggs and the children have loved helping me collect them.
Hannah the cat, recovered from her severe injury and eventually started exploring the outside again but last week she returned home with another injury and was off to the vets again. Fortunately not too serious this time but Asti has been keeping an eye on her and gave up her bed for a few days!!!! Our other cats, Hermon and Boots are both fine.
The hedges around our fields at Amroth Cottages, Furzewood Farm are now full of wonderful berries and a flock of Redwings have been enjoying the Hawthorn berries and no doubt, the fabulous Holly berries will all be gone when I want some for Christmas decorations!!!
Now I must away to lock up the ducks and hens but please take a look at my Facebook page www.facebook.com/AmrothCottagesPembrokeshire for regular updates of life here and in the surrounding area.
Until next time, when I will show you the wildlife we have seen on Amroth beach in the last few months. It has been wonderful
Regards to you all
